The Langsdale Library at the University of Baltimore is situated on the prominent corner of Maryland Avenue and Oliver Street. Originally built in 1965, the four floor, 58,128 GSF library requires renovation to accommodate the growing population of the university, including conversion of the 5,152 sf auditorium for library functions. The program includes the addition of study seating, classrooms, staff offices, workrooms, and lounges to the existing space, and updates to the interior of the facility to provide better access to the available resources as well as a more modern collaborative environment. The facility will also be brought up to current code, including ADA compliance. The exterior façade is being renovated to reflect a sense of transparency and responsiveness, incorporating a more modern design. The new Langsdale is intended to be more interactive with students and faculty and will be technologically rich with study rooms fully equipped with display systems for presentation practice. This project is scheduled to be completed in 2016.
