Deepwater Training Center | United States Coat Guard | Yorktown, VA

KPN Architects, LLC, in collaboration with a major engineering firm, created and developed the Master Plan and conceptual architectural design for this unique 48,000 sf. training facility.

Located within a 400 acre peninsula off the historic James River, the proposed renovation and re-master planning of this existing base include addition of Offices and Meeting Rooms, Classrooms, a Distance Learning Center, a Lecture Hall, Research Laboratories, a Marine Engine Training Bay and a unique domed gun turret housing the latest anti-aircraft training simulator. As one of only three USCG Training Centers in the nation, this facility also boasts special support amenities such as a Barber Shop, Chapel, a Clinic, a Cyber Café and Dry Cleaners, and a dedicated Dining Facility.

In addition to developing the functional space and facility master plans for this “A” School and Training Center, the KPN Architects’ Design Team also created a digital 3D model that enabled “Fly-Over” and “Walk-Through” simulations of the entire project.
