The project included work on two schools for the Baltimore City Public School System. This was an MEP contract. The William H. Lemmel Building #79 of Connexions Middle School is 213,300 square feet building housing grades 6-8. The Chinqaupin Building #46 of Baltimore IT Academy Transformation School #375 is 163,200 square feet building housing grades 6-8.
Both schools had a steam system in the mechanical room. The scope was to replace the existing boilers and existing Wall Unit Ventilators and Convectors with new thru wall Self Contained Unit Ventilators and new thru wall Dual Temperature Unit Ventilators and to provide new Self Contained Rooftop Air Handling Units. The ductwork from the rooftop units extend down the corridors. The supply and return air grilles would be located above the entrances of the classrooms. Installing Self Contained Rooftop units would eliminate the existing unit ventilators and convectors which were to be demolished. The existing openings in the exterior wall were sealed off.
KPN Architects was involved in the design production of construction and Bid Documents and Construction Administration to provide architectural support to the MEP Prime (JMT) throughout all the phases of the project. Their role also included review, verification and preparation of the existing building and roof conditions, code analysis, and preparing documents for IAC review and responding to their comments, and construction administration services.
