Booker T. Washington Roof Renovation
The Booker T. Washington Building #130 is currently occupied by two schools namely: Booker T. Washington Middle School and Renaissance Academy High School #443. This project requires the replacement of the entire 59,363 SF existing roof with a new roof.
The school is divided into 5 main buildings, A through E, and featuring a number of unique historic forms, roofing, and facades. All roofing systems were removed down to the roof deck and replaced with new systems per city school standards. The roof on historic Building A was restored carefully with slate shingle tiles, copper snow guards, gutters, downspouts, and trim. KPN worked closely with CHAP to ensure that the restoration was performed to their review and approval and to the required historic standards of Maryland Historical Trust KPN also added safety rails, ladders, and gates where required to meet current OSHA standards. KPN Architects' scope also included the re-design and restoration of the historic masonry facades of Building A which was originally built around 1900.
